Language learning tip 3: Choosing words to study.

From lexxica.com

There are over 300,000 words in English, but you should not (and cannot) learn them all! Infact, you probably only need to learn a few thousand.

Your goal should be to understand 95% of words. If you know this much, you can understand and also guess new words. If you know the most common 4,000 words, this may be enough. But most words in English are very uncommon. If you learn thousands of uncommon words, it will not help you much at all!
